Since 2015, Thomas Jurbala has served as director of senior housing at the Las Vegas-based Calida Group. Dedicated to giving back to the Las Vegas community, Thomas Jurbala provides support to Three Square, a food pantry that provides a range of services to people facing hunger in Southern Nevada.

One of the organization’s major focuses is ending hunger among children. When children go hungry, they can face major physical and mental challenges later in their lives. In Southern Nevada, more than 117,000 children struggle with hunger. More than half of children in Clark County public schools are enrolled in free or reduced-price meal programs, but more work is necessary to end hunger.

Three Square offers a number of programs to pick up where the free and reduced-price programs leave off. These include Backpack for Kids, which provides food for the weekends, when school is not in session. The organization also participates in the Kids Cafe program, a Feeding America initiative that provides healthy after-school snacks. During the summer, children rely on the Meet Up and Eat Up program for nutritious meals.
